An Observed Trial is a motorcycle competition held on private land in the woods, and is based on skill rather than speed. The object is to ride in balance and control, through marked sections consisting of tight turns, hill climbs, rocks and logs. Each time a rider uses his feet to regain his balance, or stops with his foot down, penalty points are assessed by an observer. Therefore, low score wins. The trial consists of a number of sections connected by a short loop. In local competition, 8 sections and 5 laps comprise the contest. Riders are classified by ability (Rookie, Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, Expert). There are no engine displacement classes.

If you are a spectator, stand clear of the section. Do not distract the rider from his attempt, and remember that these events are held on private land. Please extend to the landowner the same consideration that you would expect.

Trials in Western New York have been organized since 1976 by the AMA (American Motorcyclist Association) District 4 Trials Committee. We provide a 12-15 event District Championship Series each year and have organized 16 National and 5 World Championship events. These events are AMA sanctioned, start at noon, and finish by 5 PM. AMA membership is required and is available at the event. Minors (under 18) must provide a legal release signed by both parents. Competition entry fee is $15.00.

NEW RIDERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME.
